[ARCHIVED] Keeping Traffic Safe and Smooth

In South Jordan, making sure the driving experience through the City is safe and smooth is a top priority. The City has a thorough process to investigate and respond to people’s worries about traffic concerns like speeding or parking issues. This is one part of the city’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents.

Residents who identify potential traffic issues can file a complaint. These concerns span a spectrum, from the common complaints about speeding to more unique requests. After using a standardized set of criteria and analyzing data, our engineers determine if a request can move forward.

Once a complaint is received, the City’s Engineering Department develops a comprehensive plan to scrutinize and measure the identified concerns. They use various tools to gather information, including radar and pneumatic traffic counters, traffic cameras, and even drones. City engineers take the data and analyze it, comparing it to industry norms and City standards, to ascertain whether the concern falls within acceptable parameters or requires mitigation.

The City traffic engineer then develops a report which includes any necessary recommendations. The report undergoes a rigorous approval process, routed through the Traffic Committee. The Traffic Committee—comprised of staff from Public Works, Fire, Police, and Engineering—ensures a holistic review of the concern.

Once the traffic report is approved, it is sent to the resident to ensure they are informed about how the issue was resolved. If modifications are deemed necessary, a work request is submitted to the Public Works Department for implementation. With this process, South Jordan residents can rest assured that their traffic concerns are met. Residents can rest assured that the City is fully committed to safer and more efficient streets.
