[ARCHIVED] Mayor’s Corner: Summertime Amenities

Mayors Corner Image

Happy Independence Day! Thank you to everyone who came to our SoJo Summerfest, our South Jordan Puzzle Unveiling, and our production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. June was an incredible month filled with amazing art, great entertainment, family fun for all ages, and our awesome parade. It is my honor to be part of these spectacular events as your Mayor, and I appreciate all of the staff and volunteers who help make them happen. South Jordan is truly the BEST place to kick off summer! And now that it’s July, the fun doesn’t stop. Our City has much more to offer, and I want to encourage you to take advantage of it.

We were thrilled to open a new splash pad last summer, giving us two in the City—the Oquirrh Shadows Park Splash Pad at 10400 South and 4000 West and the Heritage Park Splash Pad at 10800 South Redwood Road. Each has multiple water features, shade structures, and warm-weather fun to help your family beat the summer heat.

If you are trying to stay out of the sun but still want to get out, I highly recommend our Movies in the Moonlight series, every Friday night at dusk between June 21 and August 9. Our fabulous events team brings in food trucks and has fun activities that are on theme with the shows. Movies in the Moonlight is a popular summer favorite!

Beginning in August, our South Jordan Farmer’s Market, hosted in collaboration with the Utah Farm Bureau, is a great way to buy fresh fruits and vegetables for your whole family and to support our local farmers!

Finally, don’t forget to check out our beautiful parks. Have you had a chance to visit our All-Abilities Park, the new playground at Jordan Ridge Park, or the new Bingham Creek Regional Park yet? Phase one of that generational regional park opened last summer and is quickly becoming a community favorite. It has a large playground, a beautiful pavilion, a disk golf course, a bike course, and wide open spaces to play in.

Take the Jordan River Parkway Trail, golf at Mulligans, pack a picnic, and head to your favorite park- South Jordan offers something for everyone. We live in a beautiful community with exceptional amenities and I encourage you to enjoy them all this summer!
