FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 19, 2024

CITY OF SOUTH JORDAN TO HOLD COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT HEARING

SOUTH JORDAN, UT – Residents and interested parties will get a chance to comment on South Jordan’s use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds and community needs at a public hearing on September 3, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.

“This is the public’s chance to bring up needs in their neighborhoods that CDBG funds can help with,” said Katie Olson, South Jordan’s CDBG coordinator. “They will also be able to review how we’ve used funds this past year.”

CDBG funds are typically used by the City to improve access for persons with disabilities. Most funds go toward upgrading sidewalks to be ADA-compliant. A small portion of funds are also allocated to local non-profits who provide direct services—such as housing and crisis support—to qualified residents, such as those experiencing homelessness or domestic violence. A full list of providers is available below and at sjc.utah.gov/CDBG.

“If you or a neighbor are in need, please check to see if you qualify for services,” said Olson. “The City participates in the CDBG program to ensure help is out there for residents.”

The hearing will be hosted in-person at South Jordan City Hall and may also be joined virtually via Zoom phone and video conferencing. Instructions for joining the meeting electronically will be posted on the day of the meeting at https://www.sjc.utah.gov/City-Council.

The 2022 and 2023 Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Reports will be available for public review and comment from Aug. 19, 2024 to Sept. 18, 2024 on the City’s website, sjc.utah.gov/CDBG; by hard copy at City Hall, the Community Center, and the Public Works Building; and upon request. The City will provide reasonable accommodations, including necessary interpretation, translation, and technical assistance, for all timely requests. For all inquiries, including making a comment, contact the City Recorder, Anna Crookston, acrookston@sjc.utah.gov or 801-446-4357. The hearing impaired may call 7-1-1 to contact TDD Utah Relay.
