[ARCHIVED] Mayor's Corner: The Power of Collaboration

Mayor's Corner Dawn R. Ramsey

When a city, county, and school district join forces to collaborate on a common goal, remarkable things can happen. Over the past few years, South Jordan City, Salt Lake County, and Jordan School District have been working to do just that. We are thrilled that the collective effort of these three organizations has resulted in a recently announced deal to finally construct the long-awaited swimming lanes at Salt Lake County’s South Jordan Fitness and Aquatics Center. This unique collaboration will enhance recreational opportunities for the entire community, create a valuable asset that benefits individuals and teams of all ages, and encourages a healthy, active lifestyle. By leveraging our combined resources, we are able to achieve a goal that otherwise is out of reach for any one entity. By collaborating on the construction of new swimming lanes, the city, county, and school district demonstrate shared commitment to meeting the recreational needs of residents. Once the swim lanes are constructed, they will be open to the public and will also be used by various swim teams, including our Bingham High Miners.

I want to express sincere appreciation to the South Jordan swimming community, both the young and young at heart, for your patience and persistence in helping make this collaboration a reality. I also wanted to extend a huge thank you to the South Jordan City Council, the Salt Lake County Council and Mayor, and the Jordan District Board of Education, along with the professional staff from each of the organizations. Many of you know that these public swim lanes have been needed since the Marv Jensen Recreation Center closed. This unique partnership serves as a testament to the spirit of teamwork and cooperation that makes our community thrive. I appreciate thoughtful leaders for coming together to create a powerful collaboration that will benefit our community for generations to come.
