Support South Jordan Businesses - Use #ShopSoJo

It's the holiday season, and that means giving to your community, those less fortunate than yourself, and the ones you love. A heart for service and giving are qualities we pride ourselves on here in South Jordan. When you choose to shop locally instead of online, you are giving to the South Jordan economy. A portion of local sales tax comes back to South Jordan City. Sales tax helps improve the city and benefits local roads, parks, public safety, schools, and more. In other words, a portion of every dollar you spend locally comes right back to you. That's why we ask that you search for the #ShopSoJo hashtag on social media to get ideas for everything from your big gifts to stocking stuffers.

Understanding Sales Tax

Sales taxes help fund our communities and provide vital services such as police and fire protection, street repairs, parks and open space maintenance, and other city services. Additionally, local businesses pay property taxes that support these functions and fund our schools. When you shop online, the City could miss out on sales tax dollars. It’s in the best interest of our community to shop locally whenever possible.

Supporting Small Shops

Shopping locally is a great way to show pride in our city and help protect the businesses that make it unique. There are one-of-a-kind shops in South Jordan and buying their products truly supports an aspect of our City that you can't find anywhere else. These small shop owners are passionate about their products and motivated to take more time to get to know their customers. Consider buying a gift certificate to support these small shops.

Supporting Local Businesses

Shopping at a local business helps it financially, but it also supports the wider city economy. The more we shop local, the more other businesses want to locate here. This diversifies and grows our tax base, making us more resilient in an economic downturn. The stronger our local economy is, the stronger our community. This better situates us to give back to those in need. So, let's join together and support our local businesses this holiday season.

The City has launched the #shopsojo campaign and is encouraging local businesses to show off their wares and tasty treats by using the hashtag on their social media posts.
